Rockerbox helps businesses unlock tax savings through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program. To scale their operations, Rockerbox partnered with TechGenies to modernize their employee screening component, automate WOTC eligibility workflows, and develop a robust public-facing API to facilitate seamless data exchange.

Problem Statement

Rockerbox’s initial WOTC screening system was manual, fragmented, and difficult to scale. The lack of a unified interface, integration with external platforms, and automated workflows resulted in inefficiencies and delayed processing of employee tax credits.

Solution

TechGenies led a multi-phased effort to design and implement a modern WOTC application stack, covering three major components: 1) a screening portal for candidate onboarding and eligibility checks, 2) an API layer to automate data interaction with external systems, and 3) integration mechanisms with state-level WOTC processing agencies.

Key Features

1. WOTC Screening Component

– Developed a fully branded and mobile-responsive interface to administer WOTC surveys

– Delivered a standalone WOTC questionnaire with redirect-based authentication and tokenized access

– Generated screening outcomes and exported structured results to external systems

2. Public API Development

– Created endpoints for employee data creation, retrieval, and bulk upload (CSV format)

– Enabled external systems to read questionnaire results

– Delivered full Swagger documentation and architectural diagrams

3. State WOTC Integration & Reporting

– Built a programmable formatter for CSV, XLSX, and XML generation per state requirements

– Integrated automated submissions via SFTP, HTTP form post, email and SMS

– Enabled completion checkers and credit calculators in the screening backend

Results

– 40% reduction in manual intervention through automated API submissions and integration

– Improved user experience and turnaround time through intuitive UI and workflow automation

– Enhanced scalability across multiple states and employers with configurable templates and credentialed bulk processing
