Scaling a geolocation video platform nationally and launching version 2.0 in weeks.
A development team established in India in weeks and a version 2.0 application built and distributed through the Google and iOS app stores, moving a regionally contained community platform to national distribution without a multi-year infrastructure build.
THE CHALLENGE
A geolocation video-sharing platform had built an early user base in Texas and California around live local events but needed to scale nationally. The version 2.0 application required a complex UI overhaul, improved camera functionality, and enhanced filtering before it could reach the Google and iOS app stores. The founding team lacked the development capacity to handle the version release and the national expansion simultaneously, and establishing a technical presence in a new market independently would have required years of investment the business could not absorb.
OUR APPROACH
Two things needed to happen simultaneously: a development team had to be established in India quickly, and the version 2.0 release had to move forward without waiting for that team to be fully onboarded. Sequencing them would have introduced delay the client could not afford. We ran both tracks in parallel, drawing on existing regional connections to source and place mobile developers in weeks rather than months, while taking direct ownership of the technical work required to get the new application to app store submission standard.
The deliberate choice was to design the backend infrastructure for national scale from day one rather than for the existing regional user base. Building for current load would have meant another infrastructure project the moment national growth began. Building for the load the platform was moving toward protected the investment and removed a constraint before it became a problem.
- • Establishing a development team in India through existing regional connections, giving the platform immediate access to experienced mobile developers without building local infrastructure independently.
- • Designing and developing backend services and APIs in Node.js and MySQL to support the platform's expanded national functionality and user load.
- • Building the application's internal dashboard in React-Redux to give the platform's team operational visibility and control as the user base grew.
- • Delivering the version 2.0 UI including improved camera functionality and filters to app store distribution standard, then iterating on content focus post-launch based on live user behavior.
THE RESULTS
Version 2.0 live on Google and iOS.
The updated application was completed and distributed through both major app store platforms, meeting the release milestone required to transition the platform from regional to national distribution.
India development team established in weeks.
A technology team was placed and operational in a new market in a timeframe the client estimated would have taken years to replicate through independent relationship-building and infrastructure development.
Backend infrastructure built for national scale.
The Node.js and MySQL backend and React-Redux dashboard were designed to support a significantly larger user base than the original deployment, removing the need for another infrastructure overhaul as national growth began.
Product refined from live user behavior.
Post-launch iteration incorporated real community usage data into the product, improving content relevance and camera functionality in direct response to what users were actually engaging with.
What made this engagement significant was not just the version release or the team placement taken individually. It was the fact that both happened in parallel and on a timeline that would have been impossible through any model that required building regional infrastructure from scratch. The platform entered the national market with the technical foundation to absorb the growth it was moving toward, rather than catching up to it.
